Before moving to Salisbury, Bar and Sue owned Beehive
Manor in Berkshire, where they welcomed guests from
all over the world to their home. During this time they
were runner up in the AA Landlady of the Year competition,
and featured in the Top Twenty choice of the editor
of the “Which?” guide. They appeared on both English
and Japanese television, as well as featuring in the
Japanese equivalent of “House and Garden” magazine.
Bolhays,
their Victorian townhouse in Salisbury, was built on
land purchased from the Dean and Chapter of the Cathedral
in 1894, at which time it was given its present name.
The house retains many of its period features, but with
the addition of 21st century comforts!
Guests
are offered a spacious front bedroom with a double bed
and an en-suite shower room, or a bedroom overlooking
the patio with a double brass bed and its own bathroom.
Breakfast
is served in the dining room with French windows leading
to the garden. After waking to the smell of freshly
home-baked bread, guests may choose from a large and
varied menu selection, perhaps starting with Bolhays’
muesli mix, porridge (delicious with cream and syrup!),
cereals or fruit such as grapefruit or prunes. As well
as the traditional full English breakfast with fresh
farm eggs, local bacon, sausages, mushrooms and tomatoes,
other alternatives include hot smoked Cornish mackerel
served with a mild horseradish sauce, or smoked haddock,
perhaps with a poached egg on top. There is a wide choice
of preserves to accompany the hot toast or warm bread.
Children
over 12 are welcomed.
Tickets
are provided for Permit Parking on the road outside
the house.
